posting this in answer to your question. if you can resist a book with the line “forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath,” - you ain’t the person I think you is.
(for what it’s worth, my dad insists that Tender is the Night is head and shoulders above Gatsby. start with Gatsby, though, I think.)
